Reading Glasses

We have different reading glasses available and can be delivered to your office or doorstep. We can also ship it to your province or district.

Optometrists have therefore made some generalizations about the strength of reading glasses needed at certain ages (this may differ if you already have a prescription).

• Ages 40–49: +0.75 to +1.50 diopters.
• Ages 50–59: +1.50 to +2.25 diopters.
• Ages 61 and up: +2.25 to +2.75 diopters.

Reading strength can also be referred to as “diopter” or “reading power” and is denoted with a plus sign “+” followed by a number and decimal. Most over-the-counter reading glasses start at +1.00 as the lowest reading strength and increase in +0.25 increments.

A negative number represents nearsightedness, while a positive number means farsightedness. The higher the number of diopters, the stronger the power of the glasses. That means +1.50 diopters are stronger than +1.00 diopters. Or, put another way, the higher the number, the closer you’ll be able to see.
